I went to my first yoga class when I was 19 and have practiced yoga ever since. My motivation has been to understand the reality of our existence. I have always had a deep faith but wasn't ever satisfied with what the Christian Church offered as an explanation and way of living life in connection with the spiritual worlds, and like many turned to other sources of knowledge in order to find answers. After finding that first yoga class I have tried out many different styles of yoga including Ashtanga, Vinyasa and Iyengar and also many other different and sometimes exotic hatha yoga classes. In my early 20's I discovered the Sivananda Centre in London and first experienced more theory and reason behind the physical practice of yoga.
Life circumstances then took me out of London and went to a class where the yoga that has been created by Heinz Grill was being taught. The class started with a relaxation position in which the breath was left free. My eyes opened, I was struck with a feeling of excitement and wonder. I didn't know what it was but I knew this was something very significant. I now understand what the difference is and you can read my explanation of it here (link and explanation to follow!).
This experience inspired me to do a yoga teacher training course in London which I completed in 2001, to move to Germany where I completed a second teacher training course in 2006 and where I started teaching yoga, on to Italy where I taught and continue to teach and more recently back to the UK where I am currently based. My journey has also led me to discover the work of Rudolf Steiner who has opened many doors of awareness, as well as, other teachers including Sai Baba, Sri Aurobindo. Deep within the message from all these teachers is a common theme, which is the importance of individual self-discovery, independent of religion, guru or priest leading to the development of a conscious realisation of our potential.
